Whether it is inter-cultural, inter-religious, inter-community or inter-individual dialogue
the key word for me is “dialogue”. This is the ability of people to be partners in communication.
And it is more than to communicate – this is to gain an insight into someone's soul and
reveal your own. Dialogue means maturity of the individual and the society. To achieve that
one should be educated from an early age – at home, school, by the social environment. Dialogue
either exists in all our life or it adapts to a particular situation.

In a era where, we are not ready to be tired to say it, the information moves with the speed
of the electronic pulses and in insignificant small time units we cover, geographically and
content wise, areas larger and larger, the cultural dialogue gains more importance in the everyday
orientation. I am Romanian and I live in Paris. I have a Francophile and francophone education
but in many aspects I am different from the French. So for both parties, everyday there is
a cultural dialogue leading to an adjustment of discourses, of working tools of the rhythm
of work. I live in a neighbourhood with a majority of African population. Hence another cultural
dialogue and another adjustment to a different rhythm.

For me intercultural dialogue means that a door will open for cultures that in the recent
past were put aside. They will enter through this door and they will discover they will not
be alone anymore.

Culture is the true European identity power. In this context the major role of the European
artists is to promote through art cultural diversity and preserve common values of Europe. At
european level for me Intercultural dialogue means integration and I am sure that Intercultural
dialogue through art is an important instrument which could facilitate the integration of new
countries in the European Union. In this dialogue artists must convince governments and politicians
that there is a need in cultural renaissance across Europe. If politicians of European countries
will understand this, European integration will not be limited by economic, political, security
and other reasons. It is important to inspire people living in the European Union to actively
get in touch with other cultures, both at home and abroad, and thus to contribute to tolerance
and mutual respect which are conditions for existence of Europe.

According to me, intercultural dialogue is about being open to and having genuine respect for
and interest in an unknown culture. It's being willing to let go of one's prejudices. In the
best case, an exchange takes place, in which elements of a certain culture are implemented
into another and vice versa, instead of opposing these elements or simply ignoring them.

At least for me, the intercultural dialogue is a symbol of the contemporary world, where we
could hardly talk about a (national) mono-culture surrounded by variety of small or sub-cultures.
Thus, the intercultural dialogue is the dialogue between the multitude of cultures, which
co-exist and co-influence each other in our societies. Moreover, I have in mind not only the
ethnic or religious cultures, but also youth cultures, cultures from the suburbs, may be even
the cultures of the people with disabilities. . .

We are conscious that intercultural dialogue is an important element for the integration of
the communities, and I think that as a citizens, we are responsible of recognizing our culture
as much as the other one, and to respect them by similar and different that they seem to us.

Every person belongs to a cultural and behaviour group according to its understandings, traditions,
behaviours, etc. Intercultural dialogue is the communication between thouse groups.
iga inimene paigutab ennast mingisse käitumise ja kultuuri mudelisse vastavalt tema arusaamistest, tavadest, kasvatusest jne. Kultuuridevaheline dialoog on suhtlus selliste gruppide vahel.

To me intercultural dialogue is a daily negotiation between a deep sense of loss of your
original culture and the aspiration to embrace the best of what a host culture can offer in
terms of identity, meaning, experience.
